Located in Tanzania, East Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world and one of the Seven Summits prized by climbers. It stands 19,341 feet tall (5,895 meters), and has 3 volcanic cones as peaks: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Kibo is the highest peak followed by Mawenzi at 16,983 feet (5,149 meters) and then Shira at 13,000 feet (3,962 meters). Both Mawenzi and Shira are extinct volcanoes. Kibo is dormant (meaning it could erupt again), but the last major eruption took place between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago. The best months to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro are June, July, August, September, which offer the clearest and warmest conditions.

Hiking Kilimanjaro routes

Marangu Route
Commonly known as the Coca-Cola route, it was the first established commercial trekking route on Kilimanjaro.
Lemosho Route
Starting from Londorossi Gate, the first two days are spent trekking through the rainforest, where you may see the wild game.
Machame Route
The Machame Route (also called the Whiskey route) is extremely popular among guides and climbers alike for several reasons.
Rongai Route
Climbing Kilimanjaro through Rongai Route is popular for having less traffic.

Hiking Kilimanjaro routes

here are Seven main Mount Kilimanjaro routes which lead to the summit, Uhuru Peak, one of which starts on the Northern side of the mountain and the rest on the Southern side. The routes are Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Shira, Rongai, Northern Circuit and Umbwe.

Hiking Mount Kilimanjaro takes between five to nine days in order to reach the Summit and then descend to the finishing point. The more days spent on the mountain the more likely you will summit successfully because you will become more acclimated to the altitude.

BEST TIME TO CLIMB KILIMANJARO

When is the best time of year to climb Kilimanjaro

The best recommended time to climb Kilimanjaro are the dry months of December to mid-March and mid-June to the end of October, as these months are when the weather conditions are at their best. Clear skies, great views, little-to-no rain, and the sunshine.

However, there is always the possibility of weather changing dramatically, regardless of the season.

You can climb Kilimanjaro at any time of the year, but certain months are better than others. We recommend best to climb Mount Kilimanjaro during the driest months We avoid April and November as these are the main rainy seasons, making the trails more dangerous.
